What this paper is about
This paper provides an introduction to pathophysiology and altered functioning and aligns with clinical nursing care. The aim of this paper is to introduce human pathophysiological processes and alterations in cognitive, emotional and social processes. Further the paper will explore the impact of findings which guide diagnostic reasoning and therapeutic interventions. Students will learn the essential concepts of pathophysiological processes and altered health states, including the nature and causes of disease, conditions, illness and disability. Clinical scenarios within each module will draw on contemporary research to correlate the anatomical pathology with major clinical symptoms and signs.
How this paper will be taught
This paper contains 7x teaching weeks, each week we have 7 hours of face to face learning time (7x7=49 contact hours/per week).
Within each week, there is 2 x 2hr lectures, 1x 1hr lecture and 1x 2hr tutorial. It is expected that you will achieve overall 80% attendance.
In between theory classes, you will have two clinical placements. This means it is crucial to continue self-directed learning during these weeks. You can do so by engaging in Lt-Kuracloud lesson activities. KuraCloud is a cloud-based learning platform that brings interactive science content and real-time learning together. Lessons within KuraCloud are developed using multi-media resources, including video, audio, diagrams, flowcharts, interviews etc. It provides instant feedback and tracks your own learning journey.
What's expected of you
- There are multiple external links contained in each lesson, some are videos, others are articles or websites that needed time to explore. The questions within the lessons are set up based on your understanding of these resources. Generally, a 2 hour pre-reading is recommended before each lecture, that is, 2 hours of work prior to each KuraCloud lesson.
- On Wedesdays, there are no lectures, this is a good time for you to work on clinical case studies in preparation for Thursday's tutorials.
